Taking a dinghy along?

I've planned to travel the Gibb River Road next April for fishing as well as for sight seeing. You mentioned a few times that bringing a camping trailer along is not suitable. How about a little boat trailer and is it worth it? I'm afraid that there are too many waterfalls to even drive that dinghy. How far of the main track would I have to go to find suitable waterways?

Thank you for your time and help!
Ralf

Well, if you go in April you may well be able to use that dinghy right on the Gibb River Road...

Kidding aside, camping trailers are fine, provided they were designd for real off road use. It's only caravans that you shouldn't take.

There is a chance but no guarantee the Gibb River Road will be open all the way in April (but fishing will be a lot better than it would be later in the season). The road up to Kalumburu (that's where all the cars towing boat trailers are headed) will definitely still be closed.

Is it worth it? If you love fishing then you want a boat up here, though it does depend where exactly you will be going. There isn't much fishing on the usual sightseeing route, but there is on the big rivers (eg Pentecost and King) and up towards the coast.

There is good fishing in a million of places. It's just a matter of taking the time to get the locals to reveal the best locations...
