12 Day Broome to Broome via GRR/GNH

by Morag
(Sydney, NSW)

We only have 12 days to complete the loop, so timing is a bit tight. We leave early September and would like to know if the below itinerary sounds feasible? We would also like to know if anyone thinks there is a way that we could fit in Mornington Wilderness Camp, as we purchased Birgit's Guide and she recommends it?

Day 1: Broome - Derby: pick up 4WD, stock up in Broome, head to Derby, camp Derby

Day 2: Derby - Windjana Gorge including Tunnel Creek: camp Windjana Gorge

Day 3: Windjana Gorge - Bell Gorge: camp Silent Grove

Day 4: Bell Gorge - Manning Gorge including Galvans Gorge: camp Manning Gorge

Day 5: Manning Gorge - El Questro: camp El Questro

Day 6: El Questro - Zebedee springs, Chamberlain Gorge, El Questro Gorge: camp El Questro

Day 7: El Questro - Kununurra: Emma Gorge, camp Kununurra

Day 8: Kununurra - Turkey Creek/Warmun: Mirima National Park, camp Turkey Creek/Warmun

Day 9: Turkey Creek/Warmun - Bungle Bungles: Organised tour including Mini Palms, Echidna Chasm, Cathedral Gorge, Camp Bungle Bungles

Day 10: Bungle Bungles - Turkey Creek/Warmun (with organised tour as above): ?? camp Leycesters Rest or Turkey Creek

Day 11: Leycesters Rest - Fitzroy Crossing: hopefully including Geike Gorge: Camp either Fitzroy crossing or Ellendale

Day 12: Fiztroy Crossing - Broome

If anyone has any comments, all very much appreciated!! Thanks

No room for Mornington without cutting
by: Birgit

Hi Morag,
That looks certainly feasible as is. 12 days is not a lot for the big loop and the only way to fit in Mornington would be to ruthlessly cut elsewhere. Mornington needs two nights at least. It really does't make sense to drive out there just for a quick look.

Mornington isn't the only fabulous place that you'll have to skip this time. You may have to come back for another trip :-).
