Fishing licence requirements for the Northern Territory

For fishing in the Kimberly and the Top End, is there a licence required? Or is fishing allowed anywhere? What about fishing in National Parks?
Thank's for any information.

Fishing permits and regulations for NT
by: Birgit

I just answered a question about fishing permits/licenses for the Kimberley region. Please see that page for Kimberley regulations.

There are no licenses required for recreational fishing in the Northern Territory.

You do however need a temporary license if you want to fish on Aboriginal land or in the adjoining waters. For that you need to contact the Northern Land Council (1800 645 299 or via their site at www.nlc.org.au).

There are bag limits (PDF). That document has all the details and also information for fishing in Kakadu.

If you have any specific questions contact the Recreational Fishing Unit of the Department of Resources on 08 8999 2372 or 08 8999 2159.

Hope that helps.

Lake Bennett Fishing Licence.
by: Anonymous

There seems to be some question marks about fishing at Lake Bennett. Is the owner of the resort allowed to demand that people buy fishing licenses off her and $5 insurance fee to go on the lake. It is zoned recreational according to the board at the end of the road. The previous owner always encouraged people to come and picnic and use the facilities. The only proviso was that no alcohol was brought onto the land.
