Broome July 1010

Manicured Cable Beach lawns

Manicured Cable Beach lawns

Beautiful balmy warm tropical breezes but Broome airport was just like Perth--people everywhere and taxis were very hard to get. Cable Beach was packed with 4 wheel drives at one end away from swimmers. The street verges were unkempt with tall weeds which gave a derelict impression of paradise!

This is not the Broome I remember in 1963. It is a boutique upmarket replica of Subiaco. The old character seems to have been veneered over and crime after dark is a big problem. Where to now for my beloved little town on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert?
