Driving to Cape Leveque in an AWD

by Jodee

Is a Ford Territory AWD suitable to travel from Broome to Cape Leveque in? We are travelling to Broome in mid September and would love to go to Cape Leveque.

Hi Jodee,
The state of the Cape Leveque Road changes a lot over the season, but in the worst case (if it's been a long time since the grader last went over it) it's still only a sandy and corrugated track, and not a 4WD track with dips and crossings and steep climbs or similar.

Depending where on Cape Leveque you are staying you may have to negotiate some softer sandy sections, but as long as you know how to use that car and all its features you should not have any problems. Also, the road is being constantly upgraded anyway, and the rough section that's left on the main road is getting shorter and shorter.

Check with the Broome Visitor Centre regarding the current conditions when you arrive, as they can vary from excellent to truly awful.
